This guide explains how to input information about how you will pay for one year of study in Japan, including tuition and living expenses.

International students applying for a Certificate of Eligibility (CoE) who need to show how they will finance their studies in Japan.

📝 Step-by-step Instructions

1. Basic Information

  • Study Costs: Enter the total cost for one year of tuition and one month of living expenses. These may already be filled in by your school. Please review and update them using numbers if needed.

  • Who Will Pay: Select the person(s) or organization(s) responsible for covering the costs. You can choose more than one. After selecting, additional fields will appear where you can enter more details.
    Payment sources include:

    • Yourself (Self-payment)

    • Someone in Japan (e.g., family)

    • Someone outside Japan (e.g., family)

    • Scholarship

    • Other (e.g., student loans, part-time jobs in Japan)

Once completed, click [Save and Continue] to move on.

2. Payment Allocation

  • Distribute Costs: For each payer you selected, enter how much they will pay for tuition and living expenses. Use numbers.

  • A green checkmark will appear once the total amounts match the required tuition and living cost. Then, you can proceed to the next screen.

3. Enter Detailed Information

  • Click the pencil icon next to each payer to enter their full information.

  • Once all required fields are filled, a green checkmark will appear next to the item.

4. Additional Instructions

  • Employment Info: If the payer is not employed, you can leave this blank.

  • Reason for Support & Payment Method: These sections are required. The content will be used in the official financial support documents.

Example Entries

  • Reason to Become a Financial Supporter

    • Self-payment: “I am the applicant and have enough savings from my previous job to cover all expenses.”

    • Parent or family: “I am the applicant's father and will pay the necessary costs to support my child’s dream.”

  • Payment Method

    • “Tuition will be paid to the school’s bank account by the deadline. Initial living expenses will be given in cash upon arrival in Japan. After that, money will be transferred regularly to the student’s bank account in Japan.”
