If your residence card or passport information changes, update it in SpeedVisa to let your school know. Do not wait for your school to ask.

How to Update Your Residence Card and Passport Information

📅 When do I need to update SpeedVisa?

What changed?	When should I update SpeedVisa?
You moved to a new address.	As soon as your new address is written on the back of your residence card. Update your address in SpeedVisa too.
You received a new residence card after extending your period of stay or changing your status of residence.	As soon as you receive your new card.
Your residence card was replaced because it was lost, stolen or damaged.	As soon as you receive your replacement card.
Your name, nationality/region, date of birth or gender on your residence card changed or was corrected.	As soon as you receive your updated card.
Your passport was renewed or replaced.	As soon as you receive your new passport, even if your residence card has not changed.

If nothing on your residence card or passport has changed, you do not need to update it.

❓️ Why is this important?

Your school uses your information in SpeedVisa to support you.

If you do not update it:

You may not receive a reminder at the right time. Your school uses your registered residence expiry date to contact you about extending your stay.
Your school may report incorrect information. Your school needs current information for its reports to the Immigration Services Agency.

Keep your information up to date so your school can help you on time. Always check your own residence expiry date too—do not rely only on reminders.

❓️ Do I also need to complete government procedures?

Yes, if your change requires them. Updating SpeedVisa only informs your school.

Complete the required procedure at your city/ward office, immigration office, or passport authority. Then update SpeedVisa once your documents show the new information.

Completing a government procedure does not automatically update SpeedVisa. Updating SpeedVisa does not extend your permission to stay in Japan.
